Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi on Saturday dragged Rahul Gandhi in the controversy alleging that Congress Vice President was a beneficiary of his hospitality during his tenure as the IPL chief. In a series of tweets, Modi posted some photographs showing Rahul Gandhi and Robert Vadra sitting with him and other celebrities during an IPL match.
Reacting to this, Congress made light of the issue saying there are thousands of cricket matches held in this country and anyone can go and see with valid passes. Party spokesperson Ajay Maken said the main issue is corruption and those who have helped Lalit Modi escape from the country and received financial gains by doing so should be held responsible.
Meanwhile, BJP accused the Congress of adopting double speak on Lalit Modi’s revelations. The party said when Modi was leveling charges against BJP leaders, the opposition party was finding substances in them but now when he revealed something about Rahul Gandhi they are disowning former IPL chief. Talking to AIR, party spokesperson Nalin Kohli said Congress should take a clear stand on Modi tweets as it can not be relevant for BJP and irrelevant for the opposition party.
Lalit Modi has been continuously revealing his relationship with politicians across the party line. Earlier, he had alleged that BJP MP Varun Gandhi had met him in London and offered to settle everything with Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He had also claimed that he met Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra in a restaurant in London. His links with Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj triggered controversy as opposition parties are demanding their resignation.
