Karnataka, legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to empower the state government to utilise the water stored in its reservoirs for drinking as well as agriculture and other purposes. The Resolution moved by Law Minister T B Jayachandra states that the water storage in the cauvery basin reservoirs stood at 34.13 tmc ft as against 27.6 tmc ft as on September 23.
Hence excess water can be released to the crops of farmers in the best interest of the State. Replying on the resolution, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, decision on release of Cauvery water must consider the importance of main petition of the state which is coming up for hearing in the apex court on 18th this month.
