National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of the Rajasthan Government, Secretary of Higher Education, Union Ministry of Education, and Chairperson of the National Medical Commission in the matter of three students at a coaching center died by suicide in Kota, Rajasthan.
NHRC asked for a detailed report of the incident from the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan. The commission also said to provide details of steps taken or proposed to be taken by the State about the regulatory mechanism to control the private coaching institutes in view of a large number of reported suicides of students.
In the notice, the Commission asked the Union Education Ministry about the formulation of the National Action Plan of a proportional increase of the seats in technical education as well as medical education. It said, the Ministry needs to evolve the mechanism to get rid of the rat race of getting admission in the private coaching centers to achieve success in the competitive examination of JEE and NEET.
The Commission has taken suo motu cognizance in the matter based on a media report. According to the media report, all three students were taking coaching classes for the NEET exam.
