Flood in six districts of Tamil Nadu also issued

As heavey rain continue to lash several parts of Kerala, death toll goes up 29 due to flood fury. The Indian Army has launched a major rescue and relief operation. Apart from army, National Disaster Response Force, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, State Police and Fire Department are engaged in rescue operations. Due to heavy flooding and landslides, thousands have been rendered homeless in the state.
Met Department has predicted the heavy rain during the next 48 hours in the state. Union home minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Kerala tomorrow. Mr Singh also spoke to Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and assured all possible assistance. In a tweet, Home Minister said Centre is closely monitoring the situation.
With the opening of all the five floodgates of the Idukki dam, water is rushing down the Periyar river and thousands of families who live along the river have been evacuated. As per latest reports, more than 53,000 people have been shifted to 439 relief camps set up in the rain-affected districts. Red s have been issued in seven districts. 50 tourists, including 24 foreigners, stranded in a resort at Munnar have been rescued.

A flood warning has been issued along the banks of Cauvery in six districts of Tamil Nadu with Karnataka releasing more water into the inter-state river in the wake of heavy rain there. Central Water Commission has said that the combined discharge of water of more than one lakh cusecs from Kabani and KRS dams in Karnataka is expected to reach Mettur Dam in Salem district of Tamil Nadu today.
