The Kerala government has ordered a comprehensive judicial inquiry into yesterday’s boat tragedy near Tanur in Malappuram district, which claimed 22 lives, including several women and children. Speaking to media persons after a meeting with his cabinet colleagues at Tanur, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced an ex-gratia of 10 lakh rupees each to the kin of those killed in the mishap.

Chief Minister said the state government will bear the expenses of all those who are undergoing treatment at various hospitals. He said a Special Investigation Team of the Police will also probe into the tragedy. Earlier, the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues visited a Madarasa at Parappanangadi, where he paid last respects to the victims. Mr Vijayan later visited a private hospital at Kottakkal, where some victims are undergoing treatment. 8 persons are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
