Bandh is called to protest burning of Kannada flags and desecration of statue of historical figures

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has appealed to the pro-Kannada organizations to withdraw the state-wide Bandh called by them on 31st of December. The Bandh is called to protest the burning of Kannada flags and desecration of the statue of historical figure Sangolli Rayanna and Saint Basaveshwara. The pro-Kannada organizations are demanding a ban on the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samithi of Belagavi.

The Chief Minister said that the government has already initiated action against the culprits for desecration and burning of the flag. He said that a ban on Maharashtra Ekikarana Samithi is also being considered legally. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Bruhat Bangalore Hotels Association, Auto, Schools, and Colleges Associations, Shopping Malls Association have offered only moral support to the Bandh and will not be closing down on 31st December.
