Four distinguished journalists from the Northeast were felicitated with the 3rd Kalyan Barooah Awards 2025 at a ceremony held in New Delhi Thursday. They were awarded for their excellence and dedication in journalism.

Monalisa Changkija of Nagaland Page was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for her remarkable and sustained contribution to journalism in the region.

In the Print Category, Amal Goswami, Chief Staff Reporter of Dainik Janambhumi, Assam, received the award. In the Electronic Media Category, Kshetrimayum Premchand, Chief Reporter of SKTV News, Imphal, was honoured.

In the Digital Media Category, the award went to Mridul Kumar Handique of Pratidin Digital, Assam. Named after veteran Assam Tribune journalist Late Kalyan Barooah, the awards recognise journalists who have made outstanding contributions through their reporting on issues relating to the Northeast.

Remembering Barooah, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan said he was “a respected voice from the Northeast” whose work consistently highlighted regional issues at the national level. He added that media from the region has upheld the principles of journalism with sincerity and courage.

“People must be free to ask questions and journalists must ask questions and seek accountability,” Justice Bhuyan emphasised.

Late Kalyan Barooah passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19.

The awards are jointly presented by the North East Media Forum (NEMF) and My Home India.

NEMF is a Delhi-based organisation of journalists from the Northeast working in Delhi-NCR or reporting on the region, while My Home India is an NGO dedicated to fostering emotional integration between the Northeast and the rest of the country.
