The joint military exercise SURYA KIRAN-13 between India and Nepal began at Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand today. The military exercise, which is set to conclude of 12th of June, is a biannual event which is conducted alternatively in Nepal and India every six months.

Over 300 soldiers from both the countries are taking part in the exercise. During the exercise, both nations will share their experiences gained during conduct of various counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations in the past.

The aim of this exercise is to conduct battalion level joint training with emphasis on counter terrorism operations in mountainous terrain.

Aspects of disaster management and joint effort towards relief work have also been included.
