In the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, over 14-hour long counter-terrorism operation in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district concluded with the killing of two unidentified terrorists.

Security sources said that arms and ammunitions were recovered from the encounter site. They said the identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained.

A joint team of Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon and search operation on the basis of specific inputs about presence of terrorists in Vijhara Lewdara area of the district late last afternoon.

As the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon them triggering retaliation leading to an encounter.

One of them had been killed last evening while the remaining one holed up there was killed in the morning hours today.

With the killing of these two, the toll of slain terrorists has reached 14, who were killed in seven separate encounters in south, central and north Kashmir areas since 5th of August when Centre revoked J&K’s special status under Article 370 and bifurcated state into two union territories.
