An Army officer and two jawans were killed while another jawan and a girl were injured as Pakistan forces resorted to heavy mortar shelling along the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts on Sunday.

Defence sources told media in Jammu that Pakistani forces started unprovoked firing and shelling targetting some Indian positions and civilian areas in Shahpur sector Sunday forenoon.

Later the shelling by Pakistan Army was also extended to Manjakote and Naushera sectors of adjoining Rajouri district.

Three Army men including an officer were seriously injured in Pakistani firing in Manjakote sector of Rajouri district Sunday evening who later succumbed to injuries.

Army troops guarding the borderline retaliated the firing effectively and intermittently exchange of fire was continuing when last reports came in.
