In a brutal terror attack six policemen, including a Sub-Inspector, were killed in Anantnag district of South Kashmir after terrorists ambushed a police party today. Police said, besides the fatalities, some other policemen sustained serious bullet injuries and were rushed to nearby hospital. Army has been rushed to the spot and was combing the area.

In a separate incident, a terrorist was killed following encounter between holed up terrorists and security forces in Arwani village of Bijbehara in Anantnag district. Two civilian youths are also reported killed. Our correspondent reports that firing is going on in the area. Situation in Anantnag and adjoining areas in south Kashmir has been reported tense. The identity of slain militant is being ascertained.

Earlier, security forces launched cordon and search operation in the village on the basis of a tip off about the presence of militants in the area. Three militants are believed to be trapped inside the cordon laid by army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir police.

Authorities have blocked 3G/4G mobile internet services across the Kashmir valley. Train services between Srinagar and Banihal via Pulwama, Anantnag and Qazigund have been suspended. However, train service on Srinagar-Badgam in the central Kashmir to Baramulla in northern Kashmir was running as per schedule.
