An Army Captain and three soldiers were martyred and five persons including three jawans were injured in heavy mortar shelling by Pakistan army along the Line of Control in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri yesterday in which Pakistani troops also used missiles.
This was for the second time in less than one and a half month that Army has suffered four fatal casualties in a single incident of ceasefire violation. On December 23, last an Army Major and three soldiers were martyred in Keri sector of Rajouri district.
Defence sources said that Pakistan army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatic, mortars and missiles on the LoC in Manjakote, Shahpur and Naushera sectors. The Indian side retaliated effectively, leading to heavy exchanges that continued till late night.
Authorities in Rajouri district have ordered the closure of all 84 schools located within five kilometres from LoC from Sunderbani to Manjakote for next three days in view of ceasefire violations by Pakistan army.
Single fire by Pak to meet limitless bullets: Rajnath
India wanted peaceful relations with Pakistan, but its forces have been told that if one bullet came from across the border, they should fire countless bullets to retaliate, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said here on Saturday night.
“I have given standing orders to our forces to shoot limitless bullets to retaliate a single fire on our territory by the Pakistani forces,” he said at an election rally at Barjala on the state capital’s outskirts.
