The anti terrorists operation in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district concluded with the death toll reaching 8 besides injuries to over two dozen local people.
The security authorities described killing of terrorists in the Nagbal Frisal Kulgam encounter as an achievement and a big setback to the terrorism in the region.
Meanwhile, the situation in Kulgam and neighbouring Anantnag district was reported highly tense. Over two dozen people are reported injured in the clashes between security forces and the locals after news of terrorists’ killings spread in the area.
Thousands of people on Sunday participated in the funeral prayers of militants killed in a gunfight with government forces in Frisal area of Kulgam in south Kashmir.
Witnesses said that few militants appeared in the funeral of two militants at Redwani Bala in Qaimoh and offered gun salute to their slain colleagues.
At least three grievously injured youths have been shifted to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment. Heavy deployment of security forces has been made in the entire area to maintain law and order.
Natives of Kulgam district, the four slain militants belonged to both Lashkar e Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfits. Two soldiers Lance Naik Bhandoriya Gopal Singh and Sepoy Raghubeer Singh were also killed in the encounter.
A civilian youth Irshad Ahmad Reshi was reportedly killed in the exchange of fire after gunfight ensued between security forces and the hiding militants in his residential house in the wee hours today.
Another youth Mushtaq Itoo of Bijbehara Anantnag injured during clashes with security forces in the Kulgam area later succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Three army personnel including an officer were also injured in the gunfight who have been admitted in Srinagar Army Hospital.
Meanwhile, joint separatist leadership have called for Kashmir shut down tomorrow and asked people to march towards Kulgam on Wednesday to mourn the militant and civilian killings.
