Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the immediate release of seventy three fishermen apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy. She asked the Prime Minister to intervene and secure the release of 101 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.
The Chief Minister emphasized that central government should take decisive action to safeguard the interests of fishermen from Tamil Nadu. S he pointed out that the retrieval of Kachatheevu islands ceded to Sri Lanka will restore the traditional rights of fishermen.
