The Uttar Pradesh government today transferred the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police of Mathura in the aftermath of Jawahar Bagh incident which left 25 persons including two police officers dead.
Nikhil Shukla, special secretary in PWD, has been made new DM of Mathura whereas Bablu Kumar, SP Jalaun is new SSP of Mathura replacing Dr Rakesh Kumar Singh who has been attached with DGP office, said principal secretary information Navneet Sahgal.
The transfers were ordered after a continuous onslaught on state government by opposition BJP and BSP. Meanwhile, the state government has sent the report about Mathura incident to centre.
Sources said that in the report sent to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the government of Akhilesh Yadav has said the police failed to assess the dangers of dealing with the cult, but denied any political interference that left the police vulnerable to the attack, as alleged by opposition parties.
The report said that links to Naxals are suspected because of the quantity and type of weapons used by the cult which called itself Swadhin Bharat Vidhik Satyagrah.
Meanwhile, BJP has termed the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision an eyewash. The party alleged that it is an attempt to cover up what it called UP government’s sins.
BJP Secretary Shrikant Sharma demanded that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav must act against his Minister Shivpal Yadav. He accused Shivpal Yadav of patronizing the mastermind of the violence.
Mr. Sharma alleged that there was an attempt to lease out the 280 acres of government land, which the accused had illegally captured, to the encroachers and blamed a nexus between them and ruling Samajwadi Party.
He also reiterated BJP’s demand for a CBI probe into the matter. 25 people including two police men killed in the last week’s violent clash in Mathura.
