Advancing cyclone starts ravaging Bangladesh coastlines killing 5

Tropical Storm Namtheun made landfall early this morning near Nagasaki City on the southwestern island of Kyushu in Japan. Officials at the Japan Meteorological Agency say Namtheum landed near Nagasaki shortly after 1:00 AM today. It has a wind speeds of up to 72 kilometers per hour near its center.

Winds over 54 kilometers per hour are blowing in a 70-kilometer radius from the storm’s center. An instantaneous wind velocity of over 72 kilometers was recorded near Nagasaki Airport.

Nagasaki City is observing strong wind gusts. Namtheum is also packing thick rain clouds. Weather officials has warned of downpours, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas of northern Kyushu and landslides in some areas of Kumamoto Prefecture. Kyushu, Shikoku, Kansai and Tokai on the Pacific coast will receive heavy rainfall. The storm will likely turn eastward. People are advised to stay on the alert for rough seas.
