In Badminton, Indian challenge in women’s singles in Japan Open Superseries has ended with Saina Nehwal also bowing out. She lost tamely to fifth seed Carolina Marin of Spain 17-21, 13-21 in the second round.
Earlier today, Rio Olympics and World Championships Silver medalist PV Sindhu made a shock second round. Sindhu, seeded 4th, lost in straight games against local girl Nozomi Okuhara whom she had defeated in the Korea Open Final on Sunday. Okuhara now leads the head-to-head record against Sindhu, 5-4.
In the Men’s Singles, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy advanced to the quarterfinals. While Srikanth defeated Hu Yun of Hong Kong, Prannoy beat Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei. Sameer Verma, however, bowed out.
The Mixed Doubles pair of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy also made it to the last-8.
