At least 38 people have died due heat stroke and hot weather in japnese capital Tokyo this month. Medical experts and police say 21 people have died of heatstroke during the 3 days ending on Sunday. The victims are aged between their 40s and their 90s, reports NHK.

the dead include a man in his 50s living alone in an apartment in Edogawa ward.

A woman in her 90s in Adachi ward died on Sunday after being taken to a hospital.

Firefighters and authorities say that in many cases the victims were not using their air conditioners.

The deaths come as a record heat wave prevails across Japan.

NHK interviewed people at the busy Hibiya district in central Tokyo.

A man in his 70s said he has never experienced such heat in his life. He said he is trying to avoid going outdoors as much as possible.

A woman in her 50s said the heat is giving her a bad headache. She added that the heat was making her think something has broken.
