A high level delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind led by its President Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari today met Delhi Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and apprised him the problems faced by the citizens of Delhi, particularly Muslims in national capital.
JIH President asked CM to introduce prohibition on consuming alcohol in Delhi as done by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. The Delhi CM assured the delegation that he will support any campaign against alcohol and his government has given priority to education and healthcare and will set up school and hospital if the right land is given to him.
Maulana Umari congratulated the CM for the success of ODD EVEN scheme, for his efforts to remove the problem of water and electricity and his attempt to put an end to corruption. The delegation reminded CM that Muslim residents of Delhi still lack basic civic amenities. There is no provision for sanitation and other basic services in Muslim areas.
The delegation told CM that a lot of vacancies for teachers in URDU schools are waiting to be filled, issue of Awqaf properties also needs urgent attention.
The CM was told to make efforts towards removing the illegal possession of Waqf properties, at the hands of various individuals and government bodies. The President of Jamaat requested Kejriwal to let an expale of an ideal approach towards Waqf properties before the nation. 123 Waqf properties in Delhi which were promised to be handed over by the UPA governments to Muslims, should be taken up as a property issue by the Delhi govt.
Maulana Umari also told the CM that the decision by the Delhi govt. to change the name of Aurangzeb Road was incorrect.
