Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said, Income Tax Department has issued notices in the National Herald case and now it is its duty to assess the parties allegedly involved in it. In an interview to a TV channel, he, however, denied that the Enforcement Directorate has reopened the case.
The Congress party had claimed that the Enforcement Directorate had reopened the National Herald case after having closed it. Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram had alleged that after the BJP government came into power, the Enforcement Directorate closed the case but its Director was abruptly transferred and enquiry was reopened.
Congress has been protesting in Parliament on the National Herald issue alleging political vendetta after the Delhi High Court refused to quash summons to its leaders including party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
