The Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO will launch a regional navigation satellite IRNSS-1E on January 20 to provide terrestrial and aerial services. This is the fifth navigational satellite and forms part of a constellation of seven satellites meant for setting up the regional navigation satellite system in the country.
ISRO’s Satellite Centre Director M Annadurai told media persons at the Indian Science Congress in Mysuru today that Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-XL that will carry the satellite to its orbit, is ready for fueling on the launch pad in Sriharikota space station in Andhra Pradesh.
He added that the sixth navigation satellite IRNSS-1F will be launched in mid-February and seventh satellite IRNSS-1G by March 31. ISRO had launched four navigation satellites between 2013 and 2015.
The navigational system will help navigate aircrafts and ships around the Indian sub-continent. It can track movement of vehicles and capture geodetic data similar to the Global Positioning System of USA.
This will boost the increased participation of Indian industries in Space Programme in the areas of electronic systems, mechanical systems, assembly, integration and testing of satellites. Focusing on “Make in India” concept for end-to-end production of satellite from industries within the country would help us to achieve further self reliance.
