Israeli strikes hit several dense commercial and residential areas in central Beirut, Lebanon, this afternoon, hours after a ceasefire was announced in the US-Israeli war with Iran. This came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had said the ceasefire does not extend to the war with the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah in Lebanon.

According to Israel’s military, the operation was the largest coordinated strike of the current conflict, hitting more than 100 Hezbollah targets within a 10-minute span across Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the eastern Bekaa Valley. The number of casualties has not yet been confirmed. The Israeli military said the strikes also targeted missile launchers, command centers, and intelligence infrastructure and accused Hezbollah of operating within civilian areas and using residents as human shields.
