Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in New Delhi last night on a day-long visit to India. Dr Zarif will meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today.

The two leaders will discuss the latest developments in bilateral relations and pave the way for expanding and deepening them.

On his visit to New Delhi, Zarif said Iran has good relations with India and the two sides have so far held regular talks.

Referring to his recent meeting with Indian foreign minister in Iran, he said, ‘Due to US act of withdrawing from Iran deal, we need to have more consultations with New Delhi these days.’

‘Thanks to India status as Iran’s political and economic partner in the region, we have organized the meeting with Indian officials in different governmental sectors,’ Zarif said.

He also pointed to his meeting with Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on JCPOA and US illegal act of walking away the deal.

Ways to safeguard both countries economic interests will be reviewed by the two sides and grounds will be prepared for developing cooperation between Tehran and News Delhi, said the Iranian foreign minister.

Zarif expressed hope for relations to increase since both countries enjoy cooperation in different fields especially in energy.

He went on to say that Iran and India have good cooperation in trade and transportation sectors.
