At least 92 people were killed and hundreds wounded as powerful earthquake hit the Indonesian holiday island of Lombok Sunday , national disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said early Monday.
The 7-magnitude tremor, which triggered panic among tourists and locals, was also felt on the neighbouring island of Bali.
The quakes were also felt on the resort island of Bali.
Lombok International Airport and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, resumed operations after a brief break, airport operator Angkasa Pura I said in a statement.
“Flight operations are back to normal. There is no damage to the air-side facilities such runway, taxiway and apron, only minor damages in terminals,” Angkasa Pura I corporate communication manager Awaluddin said in the statement.
After the earthquakes measuring 6.8 and 7.0 on the Richter scale hit the north coast of Lombok, tsunami waves of less than half a meter were detected in at least two seaports on the island, prompting BMKG to issue the warning.
Amateur footage showed damaged buildings and people running out of their houses to the streets of Mataram. No casualties have been reported.
The earthquakes were felt within a radius of 450 kilometers, reaching even Malang in East Java and Waingapu in East Nusa Tenggara.
According to National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Nugroho, aftershocks of smaller magnitudes can still be expected.
The earthquakes occurred in the same area as a 6.4-magnitude quake on July 29, which killed 17 people and injured dozens.
