President Pranab Mukherjee has said that India’s legitimate claim for a permanent membership in the UN Security Council is now getting a stronger resonance, with India enhancing engagements with like-minded countries in multilateral organisations.

Inaugurating the 35th India International Trade Fair 2015 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, he said, India recently conducted the 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit successfully and the participation of all 54 African countries in the summit in foreign policy terms moved the country into a select group of nations having the capacity and ability to engage all of Africa simultaneously.

Speaking on the economy, Mr Mukherjee said, India can become a ten trillion dollar economy in the next two decades through manufacturing and innovation as the reforms of the government are on the right track.

He said, India has stood well despite global slowdown and the initiatives taken by the government are now showing results.

He hoped that India will be able to achieve the target of 3 per cent fiscal deficit as the current account balance and foreign exchange reserves have improved.

The President said, India International Trade Fair will help preserve, protect, promote and reinforce the Indian brand.

He said, the annual celebration of trade is to develop India’s bilateral relations with the rest of the world.

Speaking on the occasion, Commerce and Industry Ministry Nirmala Sitharaman said the event is of a global stature and would see participation by at least 28 countries.

This year Afghanistan is the partner country and Bangladesh has been roped in as the focus country.

Within states, Goa and Jharkhand are partner states, while Madhya Pradesh is the focus state. Over 7,000 firms from India and overseas are participating in the 14 day fair.

The event has been divided into two segments-where November 14th to 18th will be business days and general public days are from November 19 to 27.
