India’s Civil Aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) today said that India’s aviation sector reports around 23 air incidents on a daily basis.

The Director General of Civil Aviation, DGCA, Arun Kumar told reporters today that these incidents are reported largely related to bad weather, dust or storm, bird hit and other technical reasons in the aircraft.

India’s Civil Aviation sector currently have around 8,000 flight movements daily, which includes 3,500 domestic flights and atleast 4,500 foreign airlines. India has a total of around 16,000 commercial pilots.

Arun Kumar also informed that the DGCA will now conduct breath analyser (BA) tests on Air Traffic Controller (ATC) officers and ground staff also. The BA tests had so far been only conducted on pilots and cabin crew.
