External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar today said the world is going through a period of deep turbulence and uncertainty. He said that partnerships like the one between India and Mauritius become more important in such times. Inaugurating Mauritius’ first dedicated Renal Transplant Unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, Dr Jaishankar said that India will always stand with Mauritius as a trusted partner. He termed the inauguration of the Renal Transplant Unit a landmark achievement. He said it is not just a medical milestone but a moment of hope, as it will be life-changing for patients suffering from kidney disease.
Dr Jaishankar further stated that cooperation in healthcare is set to expand further. He informed that the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital, an AYUSH Centre of Excellence, and a Veterinary School and Animal Hospital will be the next chapter of the health partnership. He emphasised that development partnership is another important area of bilateral cooperation.
Jaishankar says India finalising oil and gas supply pact with Mauritius
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India is finalising an agreement for the supply of oil and gas to Mauritius to strengthen its energy security amid the West Asia crisis. Dr Jaishankar said in Port Louis that the ongoing crisis in West Asia has underscored the importance of strategic partnerships, especially in the energy sector.
External Affairs Minister said, he is also pleased to note that an Indian public sector enterprise is developing the country’s first floating solar power project. He said, India and Mauritius share an expanding and dynamic partnership in clean energy and environment-friendly solutions.
The EAM said he is also looking forward to handing over the last lot of e-buses to Mauritius to further strengthen sustainable public transportation and reduce carbon emissions. Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Mauritius in March last year, he said the two countries jointly agreed to elevate bilateral ties to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership’.
