The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi meeting the Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, HH Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, at Za’abeel Palace, Dubai, on August 17, 2015.India and UAE has decided to have strategic partnership in the field of defence and security and also to form UAE INDIA INFRASTRUCTURE FUND to boost investment in India specially in infrastructure sector. This was announced on Monday at Dubai in a joint statement issued by both the countries at the end of two days bilateral discussions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the leaders of UAE.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar told media that the two nations rejected extremism and any link between religion and terrorism. He said, the two sides also condemned efforts, including by states, to use religion to justify, support and sponsor terrorism against other countries and also deplored efforts by countries to give religious and sectarian colour to political issues and disputes.

India and UAE also decided to strengthen defence relations, including through regular exercises and training of naval, air, land and Special Forces, and in coastal defence.

They recognized emerging investment opportunities in India, especially with the new initiatives by the Government to facilitate trade and investment. Mr. Jaishankar said, the two countries agreed to set up UAE-India Infrastructure Investment Fund with a target of 75 billion dollars to encourage the investment institutions of UAE to raise their investments in India for rapid expansion of next generation infrastructure, especially in railways, ports, roads, airports and industrial corridors and parks.

The UAE supported India’s candidature for permanent membership of a reformed United Nations Security Council.
