India is set to host the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in New Delhi from January 14 Wednesday, with a strong emphasis on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in parliamentary functioning. The three-day conference, running until 16 January, will bring together Speakers and Presiding Officers from more than 42 Commonwealth nations and semi-autonomous legislatures.

Briefing the media, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the conference will open with a meeting of the Executive Council on the first day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on 15 January.

A key highlight of the conference will be dedicated sessions on the use of AI in Parliaments, focusing on how emerging technologies can enhance legislative efficiency, transparency, research, and citizen engagement. Participants will also exchange best practices and innovative ideas, alongside discussions on the impact of social media on parliamentarians, improving public understanding of parliamentary processes, and addressing the security, health and wellbeing of Members of Parliament.
