Prime minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the export of 100 MW power from India to Bangladesh and 10 GBPS internet bandwidth from Bangladesh to India today. India has agreed to give 100 MW power to bangladesh from the gas-based power plant in Palatana in Tripura.

India is already exporting 500 MW power to Bangladesh through first India-Bangladesh Inter Grid Power Connectivity inaugurated in October 2013. Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister Modi said India and Bangladesh is a classic case of showcasing to the world how two neighbouring countries can co-operate for mutual gains. With the inauguration of the internet bandwidth export facility, Bangladesh will supply India with 10 GBPS bandwidth from Cox’s Bazar to Agartala thus helping to enhance the connectivity of Tripura and the northeast through the Akaura-Agartala frontier.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the internet connectivity will be a boon for greater socio-economic integration of the Northeast with Bangladesh and India. During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bangladesh in June, 2015, state owned Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Ltd had inked a deal with BSNL for the bandwidth export.
