India has termed the two amendments passed by the Nepali Parliament as positive developments. In a statement issued in New Delhi today, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup expressed hope that other outstanding issues will similarly be addressed in a constructive spirit.

Nepal’s Parliament has voted to amend the country’s Constitution in a bid to resolve the political crisis involving the minority Madhesi community. The amendment addresses two key demands of the Madhesis – proportionate representation and seat allocation in the Parliament on the basis of population.
