India and Tajikistan today signed four agreements in areas of double taxation, money laundering and terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon witnessed the exchange of MoUs in New Delhi following delegation level talks.
In his press statement, Mr Modi said Tajikistan is a valued friend and strategic partner in Asia. He said both the countries face multiple securty challenges in their extended neighbourhood and have decided to strengthen cooperation for addressing the issue of terrorism and radicalism.
He said it will be done at multiple levels including training and exchange of information between the security agencies of the two countries.
President Rahmon, who is on a state visit to India, was accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of the Rashtrapati Bhawan this morning. President Pranab Mukherjee received the visiting dignitary.
President Rahmon arrived in New Delhi yesterday after visiting Kochi. The visiting dignitary is on a five day visit to India from 14th of this month. President Rahmon will also call on President Pranab Mukherjee who will host a banquet today for the visiting dignitary.
This will be the sixth visit of President Rahmon to India. During his last visit to India in 2012, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to the level of a long-term strategic partnership.
Bilateral relations includes cooperation in various areas like political, economic, health, human resources development, defence, science and technology, culture and tourism.
