Agree to promote International North South Transport Corridor

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi's tete-a-tete with the President of Tajikistan, Mr. Emomali Rahmon, in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on July 13, 2015.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that that India-Tajikistan relations, unlike the norm of territory or weaponry,are based on humanism. Addressing a mixed gathering of Indians and Tajiks in Hindi during the unveiling of the bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Thakur at Bukhoro Square in Dushanbe today, Mr. Modi said both the countries are coming together not for ‘Shastras’ (शस्त्र -Weapons) but for ‘Shaastra’s (शास्त्र-Ethology). He said both the countries are coming together following the ethology given by Gurudev Tagore.

Remembering the Nobel Laureate, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon said that India is one of the leading countries in world economy. He said it has achieved such progress because of the fact that the national consciousness of its people has been formed under the ideas of geniuses like Tagore. Earlier, addressing a joint workshop on agriculture, Prime Minister said that it should be natural for India and Tajikistan to collaborate in agriculture, live stocks and dairy. Mr. Modi said it is a very special event that he has attended during his journey through five Central Asian nations.

Prime Minister also laid a wreath at the monument of the founder of Samanid dynasty, Ismaili Somoni. In a joint press statement after the talks, both the leaders decided to reinvigorate official-level interactions through Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that combating terrorism and extremism has always been an important and productive area of cooperation. He said at the time of growing threat of terrorism both the countries have further resolved to intensify their cooperation.

India and Tajikistan also pledged to further deepen their cooperation to fight the menace and agreed to step up defence ties besides boosting trade and investment. Both the nations have also agreed to promote the international North South Transport Corridor and have discussed measures to tap the rich potential in trade and commerce as well as to encourage joint ventures and investments. He and the President also visited India-Tajik Friendship Hospital. The Prime Minister after completing his successful visit to five countries is reaching India tonight.
