India’s Under-18 Football Team has entered into the semi-finals of SAFF U-18 Championship 2019.

In its last group stage match, India defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 at the AFP Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal this evening.

Indian boys started the match on an attacking note but Sri Lanka defence did not allow them to score. The first half of match remained goalless. Indian team started the second half with much vigour.

In 65th minute, Gurkirat Singh scored the first goal for India. Gurkirat Singh and Aman Chetri added two more to India’s tally in the dying embers of the match to extend India’s lead to 3-0.

After the match Indian Head Coach Floyd Pinto said, the aim of the team is to win Championship and boys produced a much better performance against Sri Lanka. He added, “We wanted to put up a better display of performance and score as many goals as we wanted.”

India and Bangladesh have qualified for semi-finals from Group B while Bhutan and Maldives from Group A. Host Nepal and Sri Lanka have been crashed out of the Championship.
