INDIA is paying homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary today. Several programmes are being organised in different parts of the country to mark the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a tweet, paid tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
Several Members of Parliament led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid floral tributes at the portrait of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary in Parliament today.
Congress Party Interim President Sonia Gandhi and leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Ghulam Nabi Azad along with BJP veteran L K Advani and Subramanian Swamy were among those who paid tributes at this juncture.
A commemorative programme was held at Vir Bhumi in the national capital to pay respects to the leader. Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra paid their tributes at the event.
Rajiv Gandhi served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989. This day is also observed as Sadbhavna Diwas to promote national integration and communal harmony among people of all religion and languages.
