India today hoped that the promises made by Pakistan to the US on countering terrorism would be delivered soon. Briefing media in New Delhi today, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, the US-Pakistan joint statement devotes much space to terrorism. He said, for the first time any joint statement between US and Pakistan has made specific mention of terror outfits Lashkar-e-Toiba and Haqqani Network.

The statement comes a day after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif committed to take effective action against United Nations-designated terrorist individuals and entities as per its international commitments and obligations.

Replying to a question on the appointment of new NSA in Pakistan, Mr Swarup said, it is the internal matter of Pakistan. He, however, reiterated India’s commitment to hold NSA level talks with Pakistan as decided in Ufa, Russia.

On a query on resolution of disputes between India and Pakistan, the spokesperson said, India has always desired resolution of all issues bilaterally. He said it is Pakistan, which has chosen to use terrorism as an instrument of state policy.

On the matter of US support for funding for the Diamer Bhasha and Dasu dams located in Pakistan occupied Kashmir, Mr Swarup asserted that India has always opposed development of any projects in the area of Kashmir which is under illegal and forcible occupation of Pakistan.
