India and Cyprus today called for decisive global action against nations sustaining violence factories in their regions. The two nations also discussed the need for creating a comprehensive global legal framework particularly through early conclusion of comprehensive convention on international terrorism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades held detailed discussion on full range of bilateral relationship, regional and global issues. In a press statement with President Anastasiades, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, India has been battling cross border terrorism for decades and Cyprus also appreciates the threat that terrorism poses to the global peace and stability.
He said, India has always stood by Cyprus on all crucial issues and took a firm stand in support of sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Cyprus. Mr Modi said, India has also contributed personnel for UN Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus.
The Prime Minister said, President Nicos Anastasiades has led from the front in trying to bring a new era of peace, development and security not only in Cyprus but also in the whole region.
He said, Cyprus has successfully overcome its recent financial and banking challenges and, recorded one of the highest growth rates in the Euro zone last year under the leadership of President Anastasiades.
Mr Modi said, Cyprus and India enjoy close economic ties and Cyprus is the 8th largest investor in India. He said, India offers excellent investment opportunities for Cypriot entrepreneurs.
The Prime Minister said, the beautiful landscapes of Cyprus and the wide horizons of Incredible India can be a source of tourism promotion in both countries.
In his statement, President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades said, both sides discussed ways to promote more areas for bilateral cooperation like renewable energy, innovation and Information Technology. He invited Indian companies to invest in Technology Parks in Cyprus saying that it will give them a easy access to Europe, North Africa, Middle East and Gulf region.
The Cypriot President said, the bilateral cooperation at multilateral level provides ample opportunities to address to regional and global challenges. He said, the two countries will continue to strive for establishing stability, prosperity and security in the world.
Earlier, the two leaders witnessed exchange of four agreements in the field of air services, agriculture, shipping and culture education and scientific cooperation.
The two sides also agreed on the need of early reforms of the United Nations Security Council.
Earlier, in the morning Mr Anastasiades was accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhawan. Mr. Anastasiades was received by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
