India and Pakistan today inked agreement on Kartarpur corridor. The agreement relates to the modalities for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at Zero Point, International Boundary, Dera Baba Nanak.
Officials of the External Affairs Ministry, Defence Ministry, and Ministry of Home Affairs along with the representatives from Punjab Government were present during the signing ceremony. With the signing of this Agreement, a formal framework has been laid down for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. The corridor will be operational throughout the year, except on notified days.
The highlights of the Agreement are, Indian pilgrims of all faiths and persons of Indian origin can use the corridor and the travel will be Visa Free. Speaking to media, Joint Secretary, Home Ministry, S C L Das, said pilgrims need to carry only a valid passport and the Corridor is open from dawn to dusk. Mr Das said, pilgrims travelling in the morning will have to return on the same day.
Mr Das said the government of India continues to urge this issue with the Government of Pakistan to reconsider its insistence on levying the fee. He informed that India continues to pursue the issue of all-weather connectivity through the corridor.
