Financial Advisor (Defence Services) Raj Kumar Arora today said that increased budgetary allocation for the defence sector will further enhance the combat readiness of the Armed Forces, reduce dependency on imports, increase strategic autonomy and improve supply chains.
In an interview to Akashvani News, Mr Arora said that the allocation will help in enhancing capability, support mobility, and replenishment of supplies. The Advisor said a higher allocation will also facilitate the availability of arms, ammunition, weapons, and tanks. Mr Arora said 7 lakh 85 thousand crore rupees have been allocated for the defence sector in the Union Budget 2026-27. He said the allocation is more than 16% of last year’s allocation.
Mr Arora emphasised that in the current geopolitical scenario, Atmanirbharta is no longer an option, but an imperative. He highlighted that this was the first Budget after Operation Sindoor. He said the government has made certain procurements after Operation Sindoor on a fast-track basis. The Advisor said in capital procurement, more than 35 thousand crore rupees have been earmarked for such purchases, and in the revenue projects, more than 17 thousand crore rupees have been sanctioned. Mr Arora added that this has improved the capabilities of the Armed Forces.
The Advisor said, the major imperative for our country today is long-term national security, sustained military capability, strong deterrence and modernisation of the Armed Forces.
