The incessant rain have been lashing Mumbai since Tuesday turned fiercer today with intense rainfall lashing the financial capital and its suburbs.
Rain has thrown the normal life out gear as suburban local services and vehicular traffic coming to a standstill due to immense water-logging. The IMD said, Mumbai and its suburbs received one of the most intense showers of this monsoon season in the last 24 hours. It also said, more rainfall is likely to continue.
In the wake of incessant rainfall, yellow warning has been sounded by the IMD for Mumbai, Thane and north Konkan.
The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has appealed offices and establishments in the Mumbai city limits to shut. The MCGM has also appealed people to step out of their house only if there is an urgent work. State Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Waddetiwar said that due to torrential rainfall in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and Navi Mumbai water-logging has been reported at several places. He said, five teams of NDRF have been kept on standby.
Railway tracks at various suburban stations like Sion, Chunnabhatti and Chinchpokli have been submerged under water, thereby leading to suspension of suburban services. Situation is not different on the western line as railway service has been suspended between Bandra to Churchgate. Waddetiwar said, the Santacruz observatory recorded almost 300 mm of rainfall, while the Regional Meteorological Centre, Colaba recorded 120-140 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, due to incessant rains, IMD has issued red to Palghar district.
