Addressing an award function on Teachers’ Day in New Delhi, she said with the declaration of primary education as a fundamental right, there is greater need for commitment and performance from all stakeholders to make this possible.
She urged the teachers to fulfill their responsibilities and be worthy of the respect and should teach with all sincerity and devotion. Stating that children in schools must be introduced to the world with its history and its dynamics, Mrs Patil said that the focus should be on developing curriculum which gives students the understanding of the world.
Earlier, she presented 298 teachers awards for their outstanding performance. Each award carries a certificate of merit, a silver medal and a cash prize of twenty five thousand rupees.
The award is being given every year on the birthday of former President Dr. S. Radhkrishnan. Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal and several other dignitaries were also present in the occasion.
