India Meteorological Department today said that severe heatwave conditions prevailing over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab have improved. The IMD said, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are mainly expected over Rajasthan and Gujarat for the next four days.

Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Senior IMD Scientist RK Jenamani said, Delhi has not witnessed severe heatwave conditions in the last three days but the temperature remains above 40 degrees Celsius. He added that no heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Delhi in the sixth phase of elections on 25th May.

The MeT department said that eastern parts of India are expected to witness rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds gusting up to 40 kmph is likely to occur over Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal for the next 7 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over southern parts of India till tomorrow.

The weather department also forecast that a well-marked low-pressure area lying over Westcentral and adjoining South Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by Saturday morning. It will reach near Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts by Sunday evening as a Severe Cyclonic Storm.
