The Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) on Tuesday organized a National Workshop on Urban Homelessness, at the India International Centre (IIC) , New Delhi. Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) tackle the critical issue affecting urban areas in India. Despite efforts like NULM SUH, the impact on vulnerable individuals remains insufficient.

We believe addressing homelessness requires holistic thinking beyond just shelters. This event aims to foster collaboration among CSOs, philanthropic foundations, government agencies, experts, and affected individuals. Through knowledge sharing and effective strategies, we aim to improve the lives of homeless individuals and families. With 15 years of experience, IGSSS has been actively working towards comprehensive solutions encompassing shelter, livelihood, health, advocacy, and capacity building. Together, let’s reimagine how to address urban homelessness in India.

Key Event Highlight

The workshop commenced with an inaugural session featuring a welcome address and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Ms. Shanti Sundharam, President of IGSSS, and Shri Rahul Kapoor, Joint Secretary of the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM).

This was followed by a keynote address delivered by Shri Rahul Kapoor, He emphasized the need for a comprehensive policy framework to enable the convergence of schemes and facilities for the homeless. Recognizing the multifaceted challenges faced by the homeless population, he highlighted the importance of tackling both technical implementation challenges and the deeply ingrained societal stigma attached to homelessness.

During his address, Shri Rahul Kapoor stressed the significance of a holistic approach in addressing homelessness. He urged policymakers and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive policy framework that facilitates the convergence of various schemes and facilities, ultimately leading to effective solutions for the homeless.

“While technical challenges exist in implementing schemes and providing necessary facilities, the true obstacle lies in changing the stigma associated with homelessness,” remarked Shri Rahul Kapoor. “We must strive to create an inclusive society where every individual is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their housing situation. “Lastly, he concluded by saying I hope this gathering is able to develop a practical action plan for urban homelessness in India.

After that a constructive open discussion was conducted by Shri Rohidas Dorkular, Deputy Commissioner, along with Ms. Prachi Jambhekar, Ujjwal Uke and and from 10 states NULM CSO also participated.
