Two passengers were killed and many passengers have been injured following the derailment of 18 bogies of Howrah-Mumbai mail this morning between Barabambo and Kharsawa railway station near Potobeda village under Chakradharpur railway division in Jharkhand.
The bodies of two passengers were recovered from B- 4 coach during relief and rescue operations. Injured passengers have been admitted to local hospitals.
The ill-fated train was going from Howrah to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai. A relief train has been reached at the accident site. Relief and rescue operation is in full swing. Railways has issued helpline numbers for Tatanagar (06572290324), Chakradharpur (06587 238072), Rourkela (06612501072, 06612500244), Ranchi (0651278711) and Howrah (9433357920, 03326382217). Rail traffic on the Tatanagar – Chakradharpur rail section of the South Eastern Railway has been disrupted following a rail accident. Long routes have been diverted and many trains have either been cancelled or short terminated.
