Home Minister Rajnath Singh today reviewed the functioning of the Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India in New Delhi. During the meeting, Mr Singh discussed the road map for undertaking the Census in 2021.
The need for improvements in design and technological interventions was emphasised to ensure that the Census data is finalized within 3 years after conducting of Census. It was informed that nearly 25 lakh enumerators are trained and engaged for the gigantic exercise.
According to an official release, collecting the data on OBC is also being envisaged for the first time. Besides, use of maps and georeferencing at the time of house listing is also under consideration.
During the meeting, the Home Minister also emphasised on the need to improve the Civil Registration System especially of birth and death in remote areas and strengthening Sample Registration System for estimating Infant Mortality Rate, Maternal Mortality Ratio and Fertility Rates.
Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and senior officers of the office of RGI were present on the occasion.
