Government has said that the number of HIV positive cases reported in the country in 2011 declined by 57 per cent. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha yesterday, Health Minister J P Nadda said, the number the cases reported in 2011 is around 1.16 lakh as compared to 2.74 lakh in 2000. Mr Nadda said, there has been no cut in the budgetary provision for National AIDS Control Programme. The budgetary estimates for 2015-16 is around 1400 crore rupees as against revised estimates of 1,300 crore rupees for the last financial year. Mr Nadda said, the government also provides financial assistance to the dependants of patients who died of HIV/ AIDS, as part of the general social security network.
