Japanese electronics giant Hitachi will take their televisions off shelves next month and replace them with models from Sony.
Company executives say they’ll take their televisions off shelves next month and replace them with models from Sony, reports NHK.
Hitachi began manufacturing TVs in 1956 and started selling flat-panel sets in 2001.
But fierce competition from foreign firms saw the company’s revenue decline. It decided to end production of TVs in 2012.
Executives then outsourced television manufacturing and sold the sets under the Hitachi name, both domestically and overseas.
The TVs have been available in Japan at about 4,000 Hitachi-affiliated stores.
The shops will instead sell Sony’s flat-panel “Bravia” televisions from mid-October. They may also offer other Sony home electronics.
