Akhil Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha has termed the IAS topper Tina Dabi’s announcement of engagement to the 2nd rank holder Athar Aamir-ul-Shafi as ‘Love Jihad’.
Mahasabha wrote a letter to her parents calling her relationship with Athar, ‘love jihad’.
According to Sabrang India, Munna Kumar Sharma, national general secretary Hindu right wing outfit, wrote a letter down to Tina’s parents saying that while they were proud of her achievements, it was ‘painful’ that the IAS topper chose to marry a Muslim.
The letter states that Athar should first be persuaded to undergo a ‘ghar-wapsi’ which in simpler terms means converting to Hinduism and urged Tina’s father to give proper thoughts into the proposed marriage. The religious outfit also urged Tina’s parents to join force against the ‘conspiracy’.
While the recipient of the letter might have come to a surprise to many, the same cannot be said about the contents within it. Hindutva right groups such as the Mahasabha had earlier accused Bollywood celebrities such a Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor of being involved in ‘Love Jihad’.
Tina had earlier spoken to the ToI and said that she had first met Khan for the first time at the Department of Personnel and Training office in New Delhi and had started dating soon after that. As the news of their marriage got aired into the social media, Tina has said that she has received several negative comments about her relationships. Tina though, had said that she was a free-thinking independent woman and was entitles ti her own choices aand thus was happy with her choice and so was her beau Aamir.
