Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah has confirmed the death of its top commander Ibrahim Aqil, in an Israeli airstrike on a building in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut yesterday. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said, at least 14 people were killed and 66 others injured in the strikes in the Dahiyeh area. Media reports said Akil’s body was found along with seven other members of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. It was Israel’s third strike on Beirut this year.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack in a densely populated area, calling it a continuation of what he described as genocide. In retaliation, Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets into western Galilee and targeted a key intelligence base in northern Israel. Some rockets were intercepted, with debris causing fires, but no injuries have been reported in Israel. This came just hours after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened strong retaliation for recent Israeli attacks on the group’s communication infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council held an emergency session to discuss the escalating violence between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, following an increase in cross-border fire and deadly explosions targeting Hezbollah members.
