Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted interim stay on reservation given to Jats and five other castes in Haryana. The reservation was challenged in the court by a petitioner on the grounds that it is in violation of Supreme Court orders.The court has fixed July 21 next date of hearing, the government will file its reply on this date.

The government of Haryana had earlier approved the Haryana Backward Classes (Reservation in Services and Admission in Educational Institutions) Bill. The bill enlists the Jats, Bishnois, Tyagis, and Rors in the recently sculpted Backward Classes (C) category, making them eligible for 10 per cent reservation in class 3 and 4 posts, and 6 per cent reservation in class 1 and 2 jobs.
